University of West Alabama



            The University of West Alabama ( abbreviated as UWA ) is a public university located in Livingston , Alabama , United States .

            Founded in 1835 , the school began as a church -supported school for young women called Livingston Female Academy . The original board of trustees of Livingston Female Academy was chosen in 1836 , and four of the seven board members were Presbyterians .

          The University serves students in various academic colleges and departments on a 600 - acre ( 2.4 km2 ) campus in the west - central Alabama. UWA offers a wide arrangement of degree programs including associate , bachelor's , master's and educational specialist degrees. The University offers concerts , lectures , fall and spring productions , fall and spring commencement exercises and intercollegiate competitions.

          The athletic teams - known as the UWA Tigers - are members of the Gulf South Conference and competes in NCAA Division II in all sports except two.the men 's and women's rodeo teams compete in the Ozark Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association .
